Fri 18 June1:00pmBeginners 45 - Dynamic Reformer Pilates
No prior experience is necessary for this class; a basic level of fitness is helpful but not essential. Clients are introduced to the equipment, techniques and some basic exercises. Recommended as your first class with Ten or for those of you who would like to practice at a gentler pace - though it's still more than enough of a workout to get those all important endorphins going. 45 mins.
Brett Starkowitz
Brett has been in the fitness industry for nearly 20 years, discovering Pilates back in 2005 when looking for an exercise method that would enhance his other training techniques. He soon qualified in classical and contemporary Pilates and began teaching both in a 1-1 and group training environment.

Brett has seen many successes in his years of teaching, especially in the fields of sports specific conditioning, occupational wellness, stress management and injury care and prevention. He is a great proponent of cross training and maintains that by adding Pilates to an exercise regime, you will see a dramatic improvement across the board. As a participant in Brett’s class, you know you’re in experienced and caring hands.

In addition to teaching, Brett is experienced in delivering education and continued learning to new trainers and those wishing to develop their knowledge. He has presented at several fitness conferences and regularly runs attended workshops. Always looking to further his own knowledge, Brett took a sabbatical for postgraduate study at Henley Business School.

When he is not studying, you’re more than likely to find Brett in the gym or walking his beloved Havanese, Alaska.

Mandy De Almeida
Born and raised in South Africa with three older brothers, Mandy was introduced to sport at a young age. Her early interest only continued to grow, and paved the way for a career.

Mandy completed both an undergraduate degree in BA Sport Psychology and a BA Honours degree in Biokinetics at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She then joined a leading South Africa bank as a Biokineticist at their corporate gym, where her role involved training staff members as part of a campaign to improve quality of life for employees.

Once Mandy had a solid foundation of experience in the field, she opened two of her own exercise practices in South Africa. During this time, she had the opportunity to network with some of the greatest healthcare professionals in the industry.

She worked with a range of conditions at both practices. This included the rehabilitation of patients with cancer, lung and heart disease, Parkinson’s disease and strokes. A substantial amount of her time was also spent on post-op orthopaedic rehabilitation. Mandy further distinguished her practice by offering hydrotherapy, exercise-based programs at schools for sports development, and exercise maintenance regimes for the elderly at care homes.

She also has experience training high performance athletes, whether this be to accomplish a specific goal, improve performance or technique, or prevent injuries through education.

Mandy emigrated to the UK and subsequently joined the team at Ten. She continues to follow her passion for helping people overcome various challenges, and making a real difference to their lives through movement and patient education.

Mandy is highly active and motivated, constantly challenging herself to be better. She often competes in endurance events, is a keen cyclist and golfer and loves being outdoors. When she’s not on the go, she spends her free time with her family, which includes two adorable beagles. She also loves to travel the world – in fact, it’s one of the reasons she moved to the UK.

Maya Culin
Maya has always had a passion for movement, starting ballet classes at just 3 years old. What she didn’t know then was that this would spark the beginning of a lifelong movement and fitness journey.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Maya had been a ‘Peak Performance’ student, training seriously in dance whilst attending secondary school. She was first introduced to Pilates and the Reformer as part of her early dance training programme, and the strength and body awareness she gained from Pilates practice soon became obvious. As is common with dancers, Maya underwent rehabilitation for an injury and attributes Pilates and cross-training to her speedy recovery. Through this experience, she came to understand the importance of maintaining a strong core and using the right muscles correctly and effectively to prevent injury, pain and imbalance.

Maya moved to London in 2016 to pursue her dream of becoming a professional dancer. She obtained her Diploma in Professional Dance from Performers College and has embraced life in London, which she now calls home. Upon graduating, Maya’s growing interest in health and fitness led her to continue her education and gain qualifications in Personal Training, Group Exercise and Indoor Cycling.

Maya’s experience teaching dance has helped her to establish a fun, positive, approachable teaching style that is goal-oriented, and she strives to create a space to learn without fear of judgement. Maya is always excited to work with others on their fitness and health journeys.

When Maya is not helping clients achieve their fitness goals, she can be found dancing and creating choreography that inspires her.

Adam Ridler
Sport was always something Adam had a passion for, leading him to study Sports Science at university, initially focusing on strength & conditioning and performance enhancement, but quickly developing skills in other areas.

It was whilst studying that Adam’s other passion emerged, as he was introduced to rowing. He went on to become part of the Great British Lightweight development squad, enabling him to work alongside Olympic champion coaches and athletes.

Working with people to help them move well and understand their bodies is something Adam particularly enjoys. For him, what brings greatest satisfaction is working with people to overcome barriers, unlock their potential and understand what makes them feel their best brings.

Adam is a hugely experienced fitness professional. In addition to spending many years as a Personal Trainer and Dynamic Reformer Pilates instructor, he has also worked in corporate wellness, teaching employees to become more active throughout the day, and understanding both the short term performance and long term health benefits this brings.

He has also worked in the emerging and increasingly important field of Exercise as Medicine, leveraging the latest insights and data to demonstrate how exercise can be an important element in the prevention, treatment and recovery process for various illness and diseases.

By keeping an eye on the latest research and key opinions Adam believes in following the best practice and evidence based methods to continue to move forward with his skills and teaching methods.

Away from the studio Adam will most likely be found outdoors, ideally on the water, and whenever possible, competing at major national events.

45 mins.
