Laura has been part of the Ten Health & Fitness community for nearly four years. In early 2022, she was diagnosed with DCIS (early-stage breast cancer) and underwent a mastectomy, breast reconstruction, and lymph node removal. Although she was given the all-clear shortly after surgery, she felt far from “back to normal”, experiencing significant stiffness, reduced shoulder mobility, and loss of strength.

On her consultant’s recommendation, Laura began clinical rehabilitation at Ten just weeks after surgery. Working one-to-one with Santi, her programme focused on rebuilding strength and restoring mobility in her shoulder and arm. After 12 sessions of structured breast cancer rehabilitation, including Reformer Pilates, she regained full vertical movement in her arm – a milestone that once felt out of reach.

From there, Laura transitioned into group Reformer Pilates classes. Over the past three and a half years, she has progressed from beginner to regular intermediate sessions, using Pilates to maintain strength, flexibility, and balance – particularly important as she moves through her 50s.

More recently, Laura returned to Ten for specialist massage therapy to address lingering stiffness linked to internal scar tissue from surgery. Targeted treatment provided rapid relief, demonstrating the value of integrated post-surgery support.

Beyond physical recovery, Laura rebuilt confidence in her body. After breast cancer surgery, she initially felt unsure about exercising safely. Ten’s clinical expertise gave her reassurance, personalised guidance, and trainers who understand her medical history and adapt exercises accordingly.

Laura’s journey highlights the importance of structured rehabilitation and consistent care. With the right clinical support, it’s possible to regain confidence, balance, and long-term wellbeing.
