Melissa James
Melissa has been dancing for about as long as she could walk, starting with Tap lessons at the age of four.

Her dedication from such a young age eventually paid off as he was taken on as a professional dancer for New Zealand’s top entertainment company, Diamond. She went on to spend seven years performing with Diamond, where her credits included New Zealand’s X-Factor and The Real Housewives of Auckland, alongside numerous sporting events and music videos.

During this time, she also studied at the University of Auckland to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Studies, where she focused on dance education and developed a passion to teach others.

Having spent many years swept up in the world of dance both professionally and educationally, it’s no surprise that she discovered Barre in 2014 and quickly began teaching Barre in her home country, New Zealand. Now that she’s settled into London it’s all about TenBarre.

Having previously used Pilates to support her own post injury rehab, she’s also a big advocate of it’s benefits. She’s adamant that Pilates should be a part of everybody’s fitness regime – alongside Barre, of course – and that’s why Ten is the perfect place for her to continue pass on her breadth of Barre expertise.

Whatever the workout, she believes that our bodies were made to move, and she loves helping anyone of any age, shape, ability and background find enjoyment in movement.

When she’s not teaching Barre classes at Ten, Melissa enjoys leading a busy life, which often includes soaking up West End shows, live music and dancing, of course!

Tue 07 July5:00pmLive - Mat Pilates (Intermediate)
This is a definite ‘change-up’ in level from the Beginners class, with the emphasis firmly on effort, focus and results. You’ll need a reasonable amount of core strength and muscular endurance and should be comfortable with the basic Pilates techniques. If you’ve already been doing Ten’s Dynamic Reformer Pilates classes, this is the session for you. Expect to shake, feel your muscles burn, and work up a sweat.

Beverley Crighton
Beverley is a latecomer to teaching Pilates having spent most of her career working in the design, branding and corporate communications industry as a client director and consultant.

Although she had been very active and involved in many sports from childhood, the demands of Beverley’s corporate career became more demanding, leaving less and less time for fitness activities and the inevitable poor posture and injuries set in.

She discovered Pilates as a way to counter these issues and practised for many years. The results, and the balance of physical challenge and mental focus that her sessions provided, kept her hooked and helped her regain the strength and stability to try other activities again.

Beverley believes passionately that Pilates is the foundation for good posture and improved form in everything from everyday functional movement to excelling in sports and physical activities, and can play a massive role in rehabilitation and recovery.

She completed her Mat Pilates teaching qualifications in 2016 and switched careers straight away.

Believing it is never too late to try something new in life and Beverley gets great enjoyment and reward from teaching Pilates to clients of all ages and stages. For many of her clients, Pilates can feel like multi-tasking at the beginning, with so many things to think about. But over time the application and effort starts to bring amazing results – reinforcing Beverley’s conviction that that anything of value takes time and patience to build well.

In her spare time Beverley is very active, attending spinning and cardio-based classes. She’s also very interested in the arts and when she’s not teaching Pilates, you’re likely to find her at a gallery, immersing herself in all things creative.

Fri 10 July12:00pmLive - Strength & Conditioning (Full Body)
This group-based class is designed to provide both a thorough workout and the tools you need to make it specific to your personal needs. By combining age old principles with the latest research-based systems, Strength and Conditioning is a great way to help your body improve its functional performance through your daily life – enabling it to move better, with more control, more power, and with less effort. Quite simply, strength training doesn’t just make you stronger. It can help you become healthier, happier, more functionally capable and more injury resistant.
Lenny Leonard
Master Trainer and Head of Personal Training at Ten, Lenny has over two decades’ experience as a coach across the fitness and sporting spectrum, with 15 years of that time spent in the British Army as part of the Royal Army Physical Training Corps.
During his time in the military he deployed on operational tours of Iraq and Kosovo and completed the infamous and arduous Pre-Parachute Selection Course (P Coy), earning him the right to wear the coveted maroon beret and parachutist wings. Lenny subsequently served with the elite 16 Air Assault Brigade as a Para-trained soldier.

In his peacetime role, one of his primary responsibilities was ensuring all 500-plus officers and soldiers within his Regiment were fit to serve. He managed a team of instructors who assisted him in delivering a robust programme of training, delivered across the range of abilities from those returning from injury through standard PT and onto obstacle course and unarmed combat modules.

After leaving the forces, Lenny took a year’s break from fitness and worked as a close protection operative in Basra, Southern Iraq. Upon his return he found his way back to coaching, initially working as a PE Teacher/Strength and Conditioning coach in the private school sector before moving to London in 2015 to begin a Personal Training career in the commercial sector.

Lenny has always been a keen sportsman and in more recent years has turned his attention to climbing. Previously he had a 10-year boxing career in the Army and competed in cross-country, athletics and basketball. However, football was where he excelled representing the Army Senior Team for a large part of his career and playing at semi-professional level for teams in the UK and in Germany.

Leading with a “human first, specialist second” approach, Lenny is convinced that the further we stray from what evolution has designed us to do, the further we stray from health.

For him, there is simply no one-size-fits-all approach. Instead we are all a unique Rubik’s Cube of conditions, adaptations and issues that has been formed by our preferences, experiences and lifestyles, and solving some of these puzzles is frequently the key to achieving our goals.

By re-establishing some of the more ‘human’ elements to our approach, whether that be increasing range of motion and joint health or improving gut health and sleep performance, we are better able to make the progress we’re looking for. And quite often, progress is made by streamlining what we do outside of the gym.

Lenny is not actually his Christian name, but only his mother calls him Philip.

He lives in Hackney with his girlfriend and 3 cats and is father to 2 beautiful daughters. He is a huge fan of electronic music and can often be found at the weekend digging in record shops to add his ever-growing collection.

Tue 07 July12:00pmLive - Mat Pilates (Advanced)Adam Hewitt
Adam has always been passionate about health and wellness. His skillset ranges from training high performance athletes through to clinical rehabilitation.

Always with a smile on his face you can guarantee Adam will be committed and detailed in his approach to reach your health and fitness goal. And with a background in corrective exercise, you will be training in the way that’s best for you.

Adam participated in a variety of sports from athletics, rugby, judo and football – all at county level – before coaching and then studying for an Honours degree in Sports and Exercise Science.

Adam graduated in 2007 and went on to train high performance tennis players at a top tennis academy in Surrey, working closely with physiotherapists and tennis coaches.

Always keen to continue learning (and equally keen to continually push himself) Adam went on to complete a Masters in Strength and Conditioning at Middlesex University in 2013 graduating with Merit, whilst also working full time at a Tennis Academy.

Clinical exercise prescription and rehabilitation quickly became a love for Adam. Before joining the Ten team in 2017, he managed a rehabilitation company on Harley Street specialising in cancer and cardiac care.

You’ll rarely see Adam without a theraband in his hand. He loves corrective functional exercise, and his classes combine an infectious energy and sense of fun with a depth of technical knowledge – and always with functional fitness as the end goal.

If you’re new to Pilates, haven’t exercised in a while, or just want to work on your alignment, posture and mobility, strengthen your core, and improve overall muscular control at a manageable pace, this is a great place to start. Ten’s trademark focus on quality of movement rather than just intensity of effort makes these classes safe, effective and absorbing.

Antonio had already trained as a Physiotherapist in Spain before he started to train as a professional dancer. During this time he also completed his Pilates training in 2003, focusing on using Pilates both as a rehabilitation tool and as a bridge between his dance and physiotherapy practice.

Whilst working as a Pilates instructor from 2003 and 2005 in Madrid Antonio studied contemporary dance at the Royal Professional Dance Conservatoire (Mariemma) in Madrid in 2005. Thereafter he moved to London to undertake a more intense dance training programme, completing a Cert HE and an MA at the London Contemporary Dance School.

He joined Little Venice team in 2008, and continues to work as a professional dancer and choreographer (winning a number of scholarships and awards along the way).

As well as bringing his backgrounds in physiotherapy and dance, into his Pilates teaching, Antonio is interested in mental imagery, mindfulness and body awareness as tools for repatterning movement.

His approach not only makes the Pilates repertoire more accessible, even to the least experienced clients, but also allows him to adapt it to match each individual client’s needs.

Antonio loves working with the simplest exercises in the Reformer yet exploring them in depth. He also loves the possibilities that the Little Venice equipment offers – particularly the Cadillac – for working on spinal mobilisation and flexibility.

Antonio is fluent in English and Spanish.

Tue 07 July1:00pmLive - Strength & Conditioning (Full Body)

Neil Dimmock
As Ten's Head of Fitness Neil has over 22 years’ fitness industry experience, managing everything from large corporate gyms to small boutique-style Pilates studios. Neil was the third Trainer to join Ten in 2008 and one of our very first Master Trainers and Studio Managers, working his magic on our Chiswick studio and our first Mayfair Studio. In 2016 we welcomed him back as our Head of Fitness for his expertise in helping clients master the fundamental movement patterns that underpin everything from our daily activities to even the most complex exercise sequences and intensive sports.

In 2011 Neil took his skills and experience to Texas where alongside his wife he set up his own Pilates studio – Green Park Pilates. In 2013 he relocated to California to teach Pilates, rehabilitative exercise, strength & conditioning and fitness classes at some of San Francisco’s leading boutique fitness studios. He also trained and qualified as a firefighter and paramedic working in San Bernadino, one of the most deprived cities in the state.

As a personal trainer he enjoys working with clients who have a clear view of the results they would like to see (regardless of what those results may be) as the best way of giving both client and trainer a strong rationale for preparation and exercise selection.

He firmly believes in the key role Pilates plays in a well-rounded exercise regime. He also an advocate for the pivotal role Pilates plays in injury rehabilitation and in the reformer as an extremely important piece of equipment when recovering from injury for its ability to allow a client to focus on the alignment of their body whilst engaging important stabilizing muscles. Whatever the exercise method or piece of equipment, Neil is able to pull the best from it. For him there is value of a wide variety of fitness disciplines and the benefits of opening ourselves up to new exercise experiences.

Neil has spent most of his sporting life playing football and in the last four years has competed in Marathons and Triathlons – enjoying the process of preparing for an event and putting his vast and in-depth fitness knowledge to practical use.

If you’re new to Animal Flow, our Beginners class is ideal for introducing you to the base positions, stretches and transitions that you’ll need to develop complex flows. Centred on ground-based movement, this immersive, surprisingly challenging and hugely enjoyable class is fantastic for getting you out of the fixed, linear movement patterns that we typically see in other exercise disciplines, helping you move more powerfully and fluidly through three-dimensions– just as nature intended.

Mon 06 July8:00amLive - Mat Pilates (Intermediate)
This is a definite ‘change-up’ in level from the Beginners class, with the emphasis firmly on effort, focus and results. You’ll need a reasonable amount of core strength and muscular endurance and should be comfortable with the basic Pilates techniques. If you’ve already been doing Ten’s Dynamic Reformer Pilates classes, this is the session for you. Expect to shake, feel your muscles burn, and work up a sweat.

Adrian Dixon
Originally from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Adrian trained as a Group Exercise Instructor in 1997 and was chosen to represent Zimbabwe in Amsterdam at the 1999 World Cup Aerobics Sport competition, where he won a gold medal in the Mixed pairs event.

Adrian decided to pursue his passion in dance and fitness by moving to the U.K in 2001. He went on to complete a Three year Dance Teacher/Performing Arts Diploma at The Centre Performing Arts in London.

Whilst studying Dance he worked in the fitness industry, and has continued to this day. He teaches a range of group exercise classes including Body conditioning, Body pump, and Core.

He qualified as a Mat Pilates teacher (VTCT Level 3) in 2015 and now runs corporate, small group, and 1:1 Mat and Reformer Pilates sessions.

He is also a tutor and assessor for Future Fit Training delivering Group Exercise courses and marking Antenatal exercise prescription portfolios.

With such powerful movements and using the ‘time under tension’ method the participant is able to reap the rewards of Dynamic Reformer both physically and mentally.

Adrian has always had a passion for dance, music and movement and believes it is important to keep the body strong and mobile. His aim is to get you moving better and feeling great both inside and out.

Fri 10 July6:00pmLive - Vinyasa Flow Yoga + MindfulnessScott Robinson
Originally from Sydney, Scott came to the UK in 2001 and hasn’t looked back since, spending time working in leading financial institutions and law firms in both London and New York. As a keen sporting enthusiast, Scott was drawn initially to the reformer (he’s been attending classes at Ten since 2008). He still practices regularly – to which he accredits his ability to ski at a high level every year on some of the Aps’ most challenging slopes.

Scott discovered Yoga in 2012, initially as a way of coping with the stress of working in a senior position for a large financial institution in London. Yoga soon became an integral part of Scott’s life, and he credits his weekly yoga practice for helping him manage his stress levels and sleep better during those years.

In 2017, he went on to complete his yoga teacher training with Nico Luce, who effortlessly infuses yoga philosophy, alignment and anatomy into his classes, which continues to inspire Scott’s teaching style today. He went on to complete studies in Yoga for Sports with Jim Harrington, understanding the key movements and imbalances that certain sports such as running and skiing create, and how to design yoga classes to address them.

Scott’s classes offer a dynamic vinyasa yoga, emphasising steadiness and flow. He combines an abiding passion for yoga with a focus on precise alignment and clear cues in his teachings, aiming to help his students perform better both on and off the mat. His classes will leave his students in a confident and relaxed space.

Scott also believes that it is in the moment between the in-breath and out-breath where the transformation through yoga takes place – encouraging students to move and go deeper into the practice.

When he is not teaching or practising yoga, as a Cancerian you can find him in the pool enjoying some much needed down time, carving up the slopes of Chamonix in the winter or slavishly following Everton football club (much to his frequent disappointment).

Francesca has loved sport and exercise from childhood, playing everything from netball and football, to street dance and charity half marathons.

She discovered Kickboxing whilst studying Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University, and having trained for 4 years to achieve her black belt she became the ladies university middleweight national champion in 2017.

Francesca has always been an advocate of Exercise as Medicine, leading her to complete a placement year at the Leicester Diabetes Research Centre at Leicester General Hospital and also at The National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine. Working closely with physiotherapists, doctors and research staff, she gained valuable experience and knowledge of clinical exercise with a range of different populations particularly diabetic, COPD and cardiac patients.

Through her research experience, evidence-based practice has become one of her core values. She continually strives to apply new findings to improve her client’s workouts.

Keen to create a more a holistic approach to treating and training her clients, Francesca completed her sports massage qualification. She believes massage should be an important element of any client’s programme, not just to help tackle and prevent injuries, but also for relieving tension and stress from daily life as well as to improve recovery between exercise sessions.

Committed helping people live healthy, fulfilled and happy lives through exercise, no matter what their ability, Francesca’s passion is to help people learn to love exercise and to build their confidence to tackle new challenges they first thought were unachievable. She believes celebrating the little steps of progress is the key to maintaining any exercise routine, whether you are a beginner or expert, to help you reach for those giant goals.

In her spare time, she enjoys walking in the countryside with her dog, training in the gym or sparring in the ring and going to the theatre. At any chance she can get, she loves to dance, no matter where she is, particularly salsa.

Tue 07 July10:00amLive - Vinyasa Flow Yoga + MindfulnessAbi Barber
Abi discovered yoga over a decade ago when looking for an intense, all encompassing physical workout to offset some of the tension she found was building up through regular TaeKwonDo training. Through consistently coming to the yoga mat and linking her physical movement with the breath, Abi discovered that her mental health and well-being were improving alongside her fitness. She truly believes that yoga can help us find balance and calm in our lives, things that often seem very far away from a hectic London schedule.

Abi is a keen runner and cyclist and works with sportspeople from different disciplines, helping them to experience the benefits of yoga as she discovered them all those years ago (and keeps discovering all the time). Her classes start with the physical body and work on increasing strength, balance and core stability as well as keeping joints in safe alignment and working to optimise range of motion. She is also passionate about sharing the positive mental effects of the practice – through a focus on deep, steady breathing even when the body is being challenged, we can help stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, calming the body and cultivating an evenness of mind and a tenacity that we can tap into in stressful situations – at work, on our commute, or during a race for example.

All of these things, physical and mental, vary from person to person and it is important to Abi to work with individuals and small groups to ensure that each person gets what they need. A ‘one size fits all’ approach is not her style!

Thu 09 July1:00pmLive - Strength & Conditioning (Full Body)

Thu 09 July5:00pmLive - Kinstretch (Spinal Focus)
Sometimes described as ‘the new Pilates’, Kinstretch is an innovative, proven movement enhancement system that develops maximum body control, flexibility and strength throughout our joints’ full range of motion, to improve overall joint mobility and longevity. It can require deceptive amounts of physical effort, making it more akin to a strength workout than a stretch class. And while improvements are often gradual they are also visible and demonstrable – you’ll start seeing the results within just a few sessions.

Sun 12 July10:30amLive - Vinyasa Flow Yoga + MindfulnessScott Robinson

Thu 16 July7:00amLive - Dynamic Bodyweight Pilates (Intermediate)
If you’ve done Mat Pilates before, this isn’t it. What it is, is a dynamic, flowing and demanding whole body workout that will develop postural alignment, strength, endurance and muscular balance. While we’ll focus – as always – on control, form and technique, Ten’s trademark dynamic flow between exercises means you’ll pack plenty of movement – and challenge – into each session.

While this is a beginner’s class it won’t be easy. Using your own bodyweight and a few readily available props, this mat and floor-based class is harder, more dynamic, and more functional than a traditional mat Pilates class, and does require a reasonable amount of core and muscular strength. Designed to challenge body and brain alike it will have you sweating and grinning at the same time.
