  • What is Clinical Exercise at Ten?

Clinical Exercise at Ten is a bespoke, evidence-based exercise programme designed for people with a diagnosed medical or health condition.

Unlike standard fitness or personal training, Clinical Exercise is prescribed around clinical need, safety and long-term health outcomes. Every programme is informed by medical science, delivered by clinically trained specialists, and supported by our integrated Physiotherapy and Massage teams.

Our aim is simple: to help you recover well, move safely and improve your quality of life.

  • Who is Clinical Exercise for?

Clinical Exercise is suitable for people who have been diagnosed with, or are managing, conditions such as:

    • Cancer
    • Heart disease or cardiovascular conditions
    • Diabetes
    • Menopause-related health changes
    • Long Covid
    • Elevated cholesterol or increased cardiac risk

You don’t need to be “fit” to start - programmes are built around where you are now.

  • How is Clinical Exercise different from Personal Training?

Personal Training is typically goal-led (strength, fitness, performance).

Clinical Exercise is needs-led, with safety as the first priority.

    Sessions are designed around:

    • Medical history and diagnosis
    • Medication and treatment plans
    • Clinical indicators such as heart rate, blood pressure or glucose
    • Evidence-based protocols specific to your condition

Progression is carefully monitored and measured, rather than pushed.

  • Do I need a referral from my consultant or GP?

No, you don’t need a referral to book an assessment.

However, many of our clients are referred to us by consultants, surgeons and hospitals. Where appropriate, we actively collaborate with your medical team and provide structured feedback on your progress and outcomes.

  • What happens in the initial Clinical Exercise assessment?

Your initial assessment is a comprehensive session designed to give us a full picture of your health, movement and needs.

    It includes:

    • Review of your medical history and diagnosis
    • Clinical and functional assessments
    • Musculoskeletal and movement analysis
    • Discussion of symptoms, concerns and goals

This assessment underpins the design of your bespoke exercise programme and ensures everything we do is safe, appropriate and effective.

  • Which assessment should I book?

    • If you have a cardiovascular or pulmonary condition, book the Cardiac Rehab Assessment
    • For all other conditions, book the Clinical Exercise Assessment

If you’re unsure which is right for you, our team will guide you, simply complete the enquiry form and we’ll help you decide.

  • What happens after my assessment?

Following your assessment, your specialist will:

    • Design a personalised Clinical Exercise programme
    • Recommend the appropriate frequency and session structure
    • Discuss realistic progression and outcomes
    • Explain how your programme will be monitored and adapted over time

You’ll then continue with 1:1 follow-up sessions, supported by regular reassessment.

  • How are sessions monitored for safety?

Safety is central to everything we do.

Depending on your condition, sessions may include:

    • Regular heart rate monitoring
    • Blood pressure checks
    • Blood glucose readings
    • Close observation of fatigue and recovery

Your medication, treatment stage and lifestyle factors are all considered when planning and delivering sessions.

  • Can Clinical Exercise help during or after cancer treatment?

Yes. There is strong evidence that prescribed exercise can:

    • Reduce fatigue
    • Improve physical function
    • Support recovery
    • Reduce recurrence risk

Our Oncology specialists tailor sessions carefully around treatment cycles, energy levels and side effects, creating a supportive and empowering environment throughout.

  • How does Cardiac Rehabilitation work at Ten?

Cardiac Rehabilitation at Ten is delivered by specialists experienced in working with cardiovascular conditions.

    Sessions focus on:

    • Safe heart rate management
    • Improving cardiovascular efficiency
    • Building confidence in movement

Heart rate is closely monitored throughout sessions, ensuring exercise remains within safe and effective ranges.

  • What is Cholesterol & Cardiac Risk Testing?

Our Blood Lipid Profile test provides a detailed assessment of:

    • Total cholesterol
    • Lipoproteins
    • Triglycerides

It’s a simple test requiring only a drop of blood and usually takes around 15 minutes. You’ll receive a detailed report outlining your 10-year cardiac risk, along with recommended actions where appropriate.

  • Can Clinical Exercise support menopause and diabetes?

    Yes.

    For menopause, programmes focus on:

    • Blood pressure management
    • Resistance training to support muscle and bone health
    • Fatigue and weight-management support

For diabetes, sessions are designed to:

    • Manage blood glucose safely
    • Improve insulin sensitivity
    • Reduce cardiovascular risk
    • Minimise joint stress and injury risk

All programmes are carefully monitored and adapted over time.
