Brad Emmott
Born in South Africa, raised in New Zealand and recently arrived in London, Brads’ career choice was decided at the age of 12.

Playing multiple competitive sports and pushing the limits of how many games of sport one parent should be asked to sit through in a week, Brad has always known he wanted to be in the health and fitness industry.

After finishing school he continued to further his education in the fitness industry, completing 3 certificates in fitness, before completing BSc in Sport & Exercise in 2010.

Brad’s career in health and fitness took off when he experienced how exercise could impact the lives of everyday people struggling with a health condition – an insight that changed his aim in life, from giving someone a thick chest and arms to helping people create a more holistic and long lasting approach to health in their own lives.

Brad has extensive experience as an Exercise Specialist and Personal Trainer, and has run boot camps in New Zealand. More recently – and for him much more importantly – he also spent 5 years as an Exercise Physiologist in a leading health and wellness centre. Here he worked not only with able bodied clients, but also became increasingly passionate about working with clients with a vast range of disabilities and injuries – and who couldn’t get help anywhere else.

Brad’s beliefs and approach to fitness and health is all about sustainable and lasting benefits – that means no fad diets and no 6-pack in 7 days.

In the weekends you’ll find Brad training, studying, watching rugby, snowboarding or doing backflips anywhere he can.

Rafael Cunha
Born and raised in Brazil, Rafael has always had a keen interest in sport and exercise, enjoying everything from football to handball, volleyball to basketball, running to capoeira and swimming to surfing.

His passion for exercise and for understanding the positive effect movement has on the human body led him to complete an undergraduate degree in Physical Education in 2008, followed by a postgraduate degree in Physiology of Exercise in 2015.

After graduating, Rafael began his career working as a personal trainer for both adults and children. Throughout his career he has also been involved in coaching and teaching a range of sports, leading capoeira groups, running social projects, organising boot camps and sports championships, and he even founded his own running group.

Believing that the human body truly is made to move, Rafael credits the skeletal system as the thing that allows us to live our lives to the maximum.

It’s this interest in musculoskeletal health that led him to train both as a Pilates instructor and study Tui Na massage, further improving his knowledge and understanding of human anatomy and in turn helping him to address muscular imbalances.

Having previously worked with people who faced hernias, disc protrusion, sciatic nerve issues, back pain and postural imbalances, Rafael enjoys helping people improve their quality of movement, overall fitness and general health.

This experience also taught him the importance of looking after our bodies, so that we can continue to live healthy and active lives without aches and pains.

Rafael takes a tailored approach to each client, understanding their needs, respecting their limitations and observing existing imbalances in the musculoskeletal system, which enables him to develop individual plans to help his clients achieve their goals. Whether that is to reduce pain and discomfort or increase tone, his programmes are developed to help clients strengthen the right muscles and restore balance.

Danilo Caruso
Originally from the beautiful island of Sicily, Danilo has been a devotee of sport and exercise since (almost) as long as he could walk.

He began at just 3 years old, practicing Judo with his Aunt (a multiple world champion) and then trying has hand at a variety of sports before discovering dance at 14.

Danilo’s hobby became his profession, as he passed the audition for one of the most prestigious arts universities in Europe, Codarts, in Holland, before moving to the UK, where he graduated from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. (As a Postgraduate, he also won the prize for best achievement of the year in 2012.)

After his graduation Danilo worked as a professional dancer for a number of leading national and international choreographers. He danced as lead performer for the National Theatre, as well performing at the Royal Opera House and Sadler’s Wells, both in London and in their UK tours.

He has always used Pilates as a base for his training, having discovered that it was the most efficient way to prevent injuries. After gaining his Matt Pilates qualification, he decided to combine his Pilates knowledge with the benefits of his dance experience and understanding of body awareness, muscle isolation and proprioception by teaching Pilates to professional dancers.

Danilo’s passion to share his knowledge and insights with a wider audience led him to join the Training team at Ten.

He likes a laugh, loves parks, nice walks, a good book, photography and of course mamma’s cooking.

Kerryn van der Merwe
Cape Town born and bred, Kerryn’s first love was ballet. She started training aged 5, and has been involved with dance ever since. Her experience across many different genres of dance – she’s a highly qualified Ballet, Modern, Tap and Street Dance teacher – has taught her how important overall physical fitness is.

Kerryn has always had a keen interest in anatomy and how the body should function optimally, inspiring her to train as a Pilates Instructor as well as to explore Progressive Ballet Technique training.

A firm believer that physical health and wellbeing should be accessible to all, regardless of their occupation, age or athletic capability, Kerryn loves working with clients from all walks of life to help them enhance their flexibility and strength. (But given her background, it’s probably no surprise that she particularly enjoys training dancers of any genre.)

Like most dancers she has experienced her fair share of injuries – including hip surgeries – and as a result, has a keen understanding of the need for rehab and rehab, and is passionate about helping her clients identify strengths and weaknesses in their body and address them effectively and safely through exercise.

She loves to share her knowledge with clients, so that they too have a greater understanding of their bodies and their potential.

When she’s not in the studio, she’s most likely to be running or scouring London for new ice cream spots. She’s also a massive fan of the arts and she loves to dance, write and enjoy theatre.

Caroll is originally from the Champagne region in France. To say that she likes travel and physical challenges is something of an understatement.

She has always been a keen horserider and a runner. When she moved to London she discovered Thai boxing, and after a few years’ training, moved to Kho Samui where she trained for a further five months, taking part in three fights (and winning all three).

On returning to London, she was persuaded to enter her first London Marathon – the first of 14 marathons (5 of them in London) all completed in good times, along with a100km race, which she finished in just over 10 hours.

When she lived in Australia and Vanuatu she took up cycling, and as a result found herself competing in the Alpes d’Huez. With its 21 hairpins, this is one of the legendary ascents of the Tour de France, which she climbed in just over an hour on a steel bike.

Just to add an extra element of challenge (and yet more travel), Caroll trained in Krav Maga in Israel, qualifying as an Instructor. And picking up some injuries along the way, which in turn, introduced her to Pilates and her teaching qualification.

Over the past decade she has participated in a number of courses at the some most respected institutes in the field of holistic health and exercise. With her in-depth understanding (and personal experience) that functional movement patterns are essential to maintain a healthy, efficient and pain free body, Carroll ensures that Pilates is at the core of every exercise and program that she does.

As a Trainer, Caroll is strict yet patient; a perfectionist but also a good motivator. As the basis of all Pilates, she insists on correct and transferable technique in all exercises – so you can practice in everyday life what you learn in class. But above all, she aims to develop routines that suit, stimulate and encourage everyone in her classes.

A BSc Hons Sports & Exercise Science Graduate from the University of Ulster, Catriona has a lifelong passion for health and fitness and involvement in sport, having played Gaelic football for over 20 years.

It was in my latter stages of her sporting career (in her 30’s) that she discovered Pilates, its benefits enabling her to continue to compete for several years at the highest level.

Inspired by her personal experience of Pilates and its benefits, Catriona qualified as a Pilates instructor in 2013. Since then she has had the opportunity to work with clients of all age groups, from 6 -65, and with athletes from a range of different sports, including Gaelic Football, Soccer, Running and Cycling.

The requirements of many of her clients are to stay injury free and to compete at the highest possible level – motivating her to ensure that she delivers and effective and demonstrably goal-oriented programme. a programme that assists them in achieving their goals.

Catriona is also a physical literacy specialist coach, working with key stage 1 children within the school setting. For her of the most enjoyable aspects of working with children, is the combination of challenging ourselves to the limit without taking ourselves too seriously - an approach that she has also seen pay dividends in her Pilates classes.

In her spare time she enjoys a good strum on the guitar and is still trying to master the F chord.

Katie O’Neill
Katie originally trained as a dancer at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London. After graduating with a Diploma in Musical Theatre she went on to work for 8 years as a professional dancer, working and travelling all over the world.

The fitness industry was a natural progression as injury prevention and body image is an important part of a dancer’s life. Katie spent a lot of time in the gym trying to maintain her weight and overcome muscle imbalances. She was introduced to resistance training and began to see and feel a massive change in her body.

Four years into her dance career, Katie obtained her Level 3 Personal Training qualification and used it to help educate herself and her fellow dancers on the importance of resistance training and correct technique. She soon began training other dancers, creating programmes that combined resistance training, HIIT training and Pilates to help them develop strong, flexible, injury-free bodies.

She then went onto gain her indoor cycling, circuit training, GP referral Mat Pilates – and most recently Dynamic Reformer Pilates – qualifications.

Katie is excited to be part of the Ten Team and tries to bring the passion, energy and discipline of her dance background into her sessions to help promote and maintain a high level of strength, flexibility, alignment and posture.

“Your fitness is 100% mental. The body won’t go where the mind doesn’t push it!”

Ben Platfoot (Massage)

Ben trained at the London School of Sports Massage and is a graduate of the University of Otago, where he majored in Sports Science and Exercise Prescription.

Ben’s love for physical activity has led to first hand experience of a broad range of injuries – from those faced by professional athletes to the kind of everyday strains, sprains and niggles we’re all prone to. This has fuelled his passion for a greater understanding of how to work through and overcome these problems.

A key part of Ben’s training has taught him to identify not just the immediate affected muscle groups but the underlying causes as well.

He has used those skills to benefit a wide variety of clients, from Professional MMA fighters and amateur rugby players to hospitality staff, manual and office workers.

Each treatment will vary as Ben uses a variety of techniques such as neuromuscular techniques (trigger point therapy), soft tissue release, to muscle energy techniques and of course deep tissue massage. Each treatment is tailored specifically to fit the client’s needs and wants while also working towards the bigger picture of eliminating the root of the problem.

Looking forward Ben plans continue his studies through Ten Health & Fitness and further his knowledge. When he’s not in the treatment room, you may also see him in a class or helping out at reception – watch this space.

Vinny Lewis-Jamerson
Originally from the South East coast, Vinny has been involved in health and fitness for many years, both as a Trainer and a Manager.
Prior to achieving his Diploma in Personal Training and Nutrition, Vinny worked in Health and Social Care, enabling marginalised populations lead full and active lives. He also holds additional qualifications in Supple Strength training, Running Coaching and Studio Cycling.
Before joining TenPilates, Vinny worked with a variety of individuals from sedentary desk-based professionals to professional dancers and actors.
With every client Vinny's initial focus is on postural support and effective functional movement. He believes that once the musculoskeletal system - the body's scaffolding - is correctly aligned and strong the only limitations are your genetics and your motivation!
Vinny also maintains a keen interest in nutritional analysis and support, believing that fuelling your body for your lifestyle is key to meeting and maintaining your goals while maximising energy levels and vitality.
In his (few) spare hours Vinny enjoys a variety of different activities including mountain biking, swimming, rock climbing, body sculpting, riding and (most importantly) busting shapes on the dance floor!
