TenClinical exists to help maximise the quality of life for clients living with chronic life-changing conditions such as cancer, cardiac conditions, diabetes and menopause. We do this by providing bespoke, clinically-proven and highly effective physical exercise sessions – and regardless as to where you are within your health journey, we are here to help get you in the best possible position to tackle your health challenges.

Hospital rehabilitation is a key focus area for us, and we work with women and men of all ages to strengthen their bodies to help improve outcomes and quality of life all the way through from diagnosis, throughout treatment and then during recovery, working closely with London’s leading hospitals and clinical practices. This is how we do it.

Diagnosis / Pre-Op / Prehabilitation

Our first key area of hospital rehabilitation is directly after a patient’s diagnosis where we focus on prehabilitation and pre-op clinical exercise. For many patients there’s a need to build strength or to lose bodyweight before an operation; for others the goal may be to increase mobility across certain areas of their body. Effective clinical exercise is proven to enhance your recovery from operations and maximise your chances of successful surgery. In some cases, exercise can be so effective that surgery is no longer necessary. At TenClinical, we can work directly with your surgeons, consultants and doctors to develop a perfect plan to maximise your strength and body’s resilience.

Throughout Treatment

The next key area before hospital rehab is clinical exercise during treatment. For example, if you require extensive and repeated bouts of chemotherapy, we can work together to build your strength up in between treatments; maximising your recovery rate and overall health. Clinical exercise throughout treatment has a host of physical, mental and emotional benefits and can really help patients get through treatments.

Hospital Rehabilitation

Our third focus area is on hospital rehabilitation, often post-surgery or after treatment. This is an important phase as it helps to optimise your recovery, ensuring you recuperate as effectively as possible. No matter where you start, we can help you to move and function better. Our aim is to get you fighting fit as quickly and safely as possible.

We have no ‘typical’ clients, but most of our TenClinical patients have been diagnosed with one of the below conditions.

Cancer

One of the most common diagnoses of our patients is Cancer. According to Cancer Research UK – 1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. Whatever Cancer you are diagnosed with, we can help get you stronger before surgery, more resilient throughout treatment, and rehabilitate faster during aftercare.

Cardiac Conditions

Heart and circulatory diseases cause more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK; that’s nearly 170,000 deaths each year – an average of 460 people each day according to the British Heart Foundation. Many of our patients have Coronary Heart Disease, Hypertension (Hight Blood Pressure) or other Cardiac based condition. There are a wealth of benefits that exercise can offer to improve cardiac conditions, reducing blood pressure and excessive cardiac stress. All our cardiac-specific sessions have measurements taken before, during and after exercising to ensure maximum safety and optimise the health effects. Heart rate is measured every 2 minutes to ensure patients are working in the correct heart rate zones.

Diabetes

There are strong links between diabetes, difficulty in managing weight and coronary heart disease. Glucose readings are taken at the start and finish of every session. Sessions are tailored to ensure that exercise is conducted in the ‘fat burning zone’ (utilising energy from fat lipids rather than glucose or glycogen). The higher body mass that frequently accompanies diabetes puts undue pressure on bones, ligaments and joints. As a result, sessions also focus on injury prevention – correcting compensatory movement patterns and encouraging safer, more functional patterns.

Menopause

Every woman goes through the menopause, but it affects people differently. Changing hormone levels can cause issues throughout the body, from osteoporosis to cardiovascular disease and muscular atrophy. Key areas of emphasis are on blood pressure management and on optimising the effectiveness of resistance work to combat the body’s reduced ability to generate lean muscle.

What is clinical exercise and why is it different to a ‘regular’ gym session?

A clinical session is driven by the patient’s needs, whilst a ‘regular’ gym session is driven by the client’s wants. In clinical exercise rehabilitation the patient needs to get stronger pre/post-surgery, or they need to reduce their blood pressure. In contrast a regular gym goer wants to lose bodyfat or gain muscle mass. Our exercise rehabilitation sessions are driven by what the patient requires, due to their diagnosis. Our clinical trainers are highly qualified and experienced in a huge variety of conditions. Our staff have close ties to London’s top surgeons and consultants, and many patients are referred directly to us here at TenClinical.

Our clinical exercise rehabilitation sessions are bespoke; tailored specifically for you and your needs. We can speak directly to your surgeons or consultants and understand exactly which procedures you are having, or have had, and work together to strengthen the necessary parts of your body and mind.
